Knackebrod or Crispbread
In a long time ago, crispbread was made for those who could not buy bread. Crispbread has been a culinary part of Sweden for 500 years. It is served for accompanying bread as part of the main menu. The topping is various such as butter, sliced tomatoes, and cheese, or some slices of meat.
Lingonberry jam is made from lingonberries. Lingonberries are known as mountain cranberries or partridge berries in the forested areas. Lingonberry jam has a sweet taste that is often served with meat courses such as meatballs, beef stew or liver dishes.
Regionally, they are even served with fried herring. The jam also can be paired even with mashed potatoes and the traditional oatmeal porridge. Sometimes, it is served together with cinnamon and perhaps, a little sugar.
Sill or Herring Pickled
This dish is actually more like a raw fish fermented with many spices. Sill usually lasts for several months. The longer stored, of course, the spice is more pervasive in the fish which has extreme smell and taste. Sill is present in various variants ranging from a mixture of onion, pepper, and tomato, to mustard. Usually, it is served with bread or boiled eggs.
Kottbullar or Swedish Meatballs
In Sweden, köttbullar or Swedish meatballs is a food dish that uses beef, pork, veal, or a combination of several types of meat. The meat is as the base for the meat ingredients including breadcrumbs soaked in milk, finely chopped (fried) onions, some broth, and often including cream.
